At 11:48 am on Thursday, 6/19/25 the East Great Plain Fire Department with Norwich's Engine 3, Truck 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched to 526 West Thames Street, Big Harry's Discount Liquors for a structure fire. Norwich Dispatch was taking multiple calls and transmitted the working fire which added the Mohegan Tribal FAST and an American Ambulance.
Battalion 1 arrived reporting fire showing from the rear of a single story wood frame commercial building. Engine 3 stretched a 1.75" hose line to the Charlie side and knocked the fire. Truck 1 performed the primary search of the store and opened up the rear wall.
Engine 52 laid in from the hydrant and gave Engine 3 their tank water. ET-51 stood by the hydrant and performed the secondary search while Rescue 5 filled air cylinders. Squad A assisted with opening up and the Norwich Fire Marshal's Office is investigating. The Norwich Police Department shut down the roadway and Norwich Public Utilities secured power to the building.
