At approximately 8:15 p.m. on June 14th, the Tenafly Fire Department was dispatched to 131 Hudson Ave. A working fire was transmitted by the first arriving unit for smoke showing from a large 2 ½ story multi-million dollar home. A glow was visible from the rear. All occupants were confirmed out of the structure. A second alarm was sounded as heavy fire was showing from across a first floor rear room that spanned the full structure. A line was brought to the rear and operated and soon the heavy fire was subdued, but heavy smoke continued to push from most of the home both in the front and the “B” side. Englewood Truck 2 took the front of the home and laddered the roof. Lines were also stretched in the front door and an attached garage. A third alarm was sounded as some water problems occurred, but were soon overcome. By 9:00 p.m. most of the visible fire was knocked down, but extensive overhaul was required.
No serious injuries were reported. Candles were a possible cause, but the investigation is continuing. Englewood, Cresskill, Dumont, and Bergenfield assisted at the scene.
