Members of the Proctorsville Volunteer Fire Department were sent on a mutual aid assignment to Cavendish at 10:02 a.m. on May 29 in response to a reported carbon monoxide alarm activation.

According to officials, once Cavendish Fire asked for help, Engine 1 and Engine 2, along with a team of five firefighters, responded. When crews arrived, they used a four-gas monitoring meter to enter the facility and look into where the alert originated.

Firefighters conducted a comprehensive inspection and discovered no dangerous conditions or excessive gas readings within the building. After that, the building was returned to the contractors who had been using it. Without any problems, all of the responding units left the site and resumed their duties.
