Members of the Gales Ferry Volunteer Fire Company and the Ledyard Fire Company responded to a reported structure fire at 120 Gallup Hill Road at around 12:38 a.m. on May 31.
The first units to arrive reported that there was fire expanding into the roof and that there was a lot of smoke coming from the back of the structure. As personnel faced a serious fire situation, Chief Mann established command and asked for more resources. Because of the scale of the building and the scope of the fire, a first working alarm was set off, followed by a second alarm.
Firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack and worked to contain the fire and prevent further extension throughout the building. The blaze was extinguished, and crews conducted extensive overhaul operations before bringing the incident under control shortly after 3:00 a.m. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ledyard Fire Marshal’s Office.
