RIT and Mayday training for Waltham

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Recently, all Waltham Firefighters underwent RIT and May day training.

The exercise took place at a soon to be demolished office building.

Training Deputy Brock Rowland, assisted by Lt. Mike Quinn, over saw the rescue of a fellow firefighter (mannequin), who was trapped on the second-floor and running out of oxygen. The firefighter sent out a "Mayday."

Firefighters wore SCBA with the masks covered in gray to simulate being in a fire. They had to feel their way to the downed firefighter in total darkness, attach breathing apparatus and then drag him to safety.

Part of the exercise was also optimizing radio communications.
