Fire Hawk Helicopter Crash at Leesburg Airport

On May 25th at approximately 6:00PM, Leesburg's Airport station 63 was notified of a possible helicopter crash off the taxiway in the wood line. RED 1 (Leesburg's ARFF truck) responded and arrived on scene to find heavy smoke coming from the wood line. Marine 63 also responded to the scene incase the helicopter crashed into the water. Crews were able to locate the helicopter approximately 200 yards into the wood line. A down helicopter was found heavily involved in fire. Crews immediately started fire attack operations and search/rescue efforts. Crews were on scene for approximately 6 hours working the scene. Four people lost their life in the crash. Approximately 300 gallons of fuel were on board. The helicopter was performing training when the incident happened. The crash is currently under investigation to figure out how the crash occurred.
