Hardee County Crews Contain Brush Fire Along US 17
March 20, 2026 — Hardee County Fire Rescue, alongside the Florida Forest Service, responded to a brush fire at E. Carton Street and Cobb Court, encountering large debris piles actively burning.
Crews utilized approximately 12,000 gallons of water to bring the fire under control and establish containment lines around the affected area. While the fire is contained, officials note that debris piles will continue to smolder for several days due to dry conditions.
Motorists are urged to use caution along US Highway 17 North, where lingering smoke may reduce visibility. The Florida Department of Transportation is placing warning signage in the area.
HCFR units remain on scene with the Florida Forest Service to monitor conditions and address any remaining hot spots.
