Alpha Firefighters Assist at Overnight Harris Township House Fire

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Members of the Alpha Fire Company were sent to the 600 block of Smith Lane in Harris Township just before midnight on May 4th to help the Boalsburg Fire Company with a residential fire.

Arriving personnel discovered a well-involved attached garage fire that extended into the house, according to officials. Quint 5 took over first-due truck company duties, and firemen successfully rescued one cat from the house while searching under intense fire conditions.

Crews helped with second-floor fire attack operations while stretching hoselines through the house and garage after finishing searches. A portion of the roof eventually fell as a result of deteriorating attic conditions and extended fire exposure, forcing firefighters to switch to aerial master stream operations.

Before going back to work just before six in the morning, Company 5 troops worked on the scene for more than four hours doing overhaul, water shuttle, and suppression operations.
