The Broadalbin-Kennyetto Fire Company responded to a reported brush fire along County Highway 107 in the Town of Broadalbin at around 3:42 p.m. on April 27.
The Perth Volunteer Fire Company was sent out on automatic mutual aid, according to officials. Crews discovered that a neighboring wood pile had allegedly been set on fire by a lithium battery explosion. The incident was elevated to a structure fire response because of how close the fire was to a building.
While more tankers and brush units worked on the scene, firefighters established a water supply operation with support from the Hagaman Volunteer Fire Department. Additionally, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation was informed. Officials said the fire was contained before extending to the nearby building. The department’s auxiliary and fire police units also assisted during the incident.
