The Plattsburgh Professional Firefighters Local 2421 on May 7th highlighted recent emergency responses that had occupied department personnel during the preceding weeks.

Officials said Platoon 1, staffed with eight firefighters, responded to a single-family residential fire on Montcalm Avenue on April 24th. A few days later, on May 4, a structure fire at a motel-style apartment building on Sailly Avenue was managed by Platoon 4, which was manned by seven firefighters.

In both incidents, firefighters quickly accounted for residents and conducted aggressive fire attacks to limit further damage. The department reported that during their 24-hour shifts after both fires, crews continued to respond to EMS calls and other emergencies. Officials said the incidents demonstrated the department’s continued readiness despite operating with a smaller workforce.
