On May 4 and 5, Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department members returned to Belleville for a second night in a row of mutual aid operations at an ongoing fire situation.

In order to deliver water to a ladder truck driven by the Montclair Fire Department during suppression efforts, Fairfield personnel set up a relay pump operation from a hydrant to the fire area, according to officials.

Fairfield firefighters put in about 75 man-hours of effort during the protracted incident. Additionally, officials calculated that during the course of ten hours on Monday night alone, the department's engine pumped close to 430,000 gallons of water.

The department expressed gratitude to its mutual assistance organizations and volunteer firemen for their unwavering cooperation and support during the operation.
