The Township of Washington Fire Department was called to a home on April 13 at around 12:07 p.m. due to a reported brush fire.

When crews arrived, they discovered an open burn that was causing an active brush fire. Firefighters finished heavy overhaul operations and extended one hose line to put out pockets of fire. According to officials, the fire was limited to the bush area and did not spread to a nearby fence.

Residents were warned by the department that open burning is forbidden by Chapter 120, Section 5 of the township code. Additionally, officials advised locals to check the New Jersey Forest Fire Service for daily information on fire hazard and existing burn prohibitions.
