At approximately 10:00 PM on May 4th, Wayne Fire Companies 5, 2 and 3 were dispatched to 52 Lenox Rd for a reported house fire. First arriving police units reported a working porch fire on a 2 1.2 story frame dwelling. The flames quickly spread and fire units approached with heavy fire showing from both floors of the structure. A second alarm was called for as multiple lines and a deck gun was operated to darken down the fire. A line was stretched to the front door, but had to be withdrawn as all companies were ordered defensive. Flames extended to the attic and broke through the roof. A tower ladder was placed in operation and eventually the fire began to darken down. By 11`:00 all visible fire was extinguished and the smoked condition began to lighten.
Two firefighters were transported to the hospital. One with a cardiac condition and one with a broken bone. No residents were injured, but a family dog perished in the blaze, The cause is under investigation.
