CHARLOTTE, ME — April 25th — Crews from Meddybemps Fire Department and Charlotte Volunteer Fire & Rescue, located at 1100 Ayers Jct Rd, responded to an uncontrolled allowed burn. When units arrived, they discovered that the fire was blazing around half an acre and spreading into neighboring grass. Using brush lines and hand tools, firefighters swiftly put out the main body of fire. For around an hour, crews worked hot spots and soaked the area to guarantee complete extinguishment.
There were no reported injuries. Although the property owner complied with regulations and had a legal permission, shifting weather conditions—including an unexpected blast of wind—contributed to the spread. The owner quickly alerted the authorities. Even during authorized burns, wind and dry fuels can quickly intensify fire behavior, according to the Maine Forest Rangers.
