PASSAIC, NJ - A two-alarm fire damaged a retail store in Passaic on April 27th, destroying a large amount of merchandise, but causing minimal structural damage thanks to the aggressive work of firefighters.
Shortly after 3:00 A.M., a passing police officer reported smoke in the area of 179 Jefferson Street. Fire units were dispatched and arrived to find smoke venting from a one-story retail store attached on both sides. A second-alarm was transmitted as members worked to access the interior via roll down gates and basement Bilco doors. Lines were stretched inside and companies searched for the seat of the fire. Much of the contents were melted and damaged, but little fire was found. Apparently the fire may have burned itself out before being discovered.
Companies were released after overhaul. No injuries were reported, and the cause is under investigation.
