Working Fire Quickly Knocked Down in Bogota, Residents Escape Safely

Bogota, NJ - The Bogota Fire Department responded to an activated fire alarm on East Main Street and arrived to find smoke showing from the roofline, prompting the immediate transmission of a working fire and the request for mutual aid.

Ladder 1 conducted a primary search of a second-floor apartment, locating a well-involved kitchen fire.

Engine 1 advanced a 300-foot attack line to bring the fire under control, while Teaneck SQ23 established a water supply from a nearby hydrant.

Crews encountered minor extension above the ceiling, which was quickly contained.

Additional units and mutual aid companies supported operations by stretching a second handline, ventilating the structure, laddering the building, and completing overhaul.

Firefighters remained on scene for an extended period assisting with the investigation and helping residents salvage belongings.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Bogota Fire Prevention Bureau.

Officials emphasized the critical role of working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, which alerted occupants and allowed for a safe evacuation—serving as a reminder that no alarm should ever be considered routine.
