Wind-Driven Field Burn Escapes Control, Crews Contain Spread at Wood Line

Orland, ME - Orland Fire Department responded to a blueberry field burn that escaped control following a wind shift, prompting a multi-unit response that included Engine 513, Tanker 551, Rescue 581, and members utilizing personal ATVs and UTVs.


Local residents also assisted in the initial effort.


Following size-up, mutual aid was requested from Penobscot and Castine Fire Departments as the fire advanced toward the wood line.


Crews worked quickly to contain the spread, successfully stopping the fire before it could extend further into wooded areas. Castine units were canceled while en route as conditions improved.


Firefighters remained on scene for approximately two hours conducting suppression and overhaul operations.
