Fairfield, CT - Fairfield Fire Department units responded to a reported residential structure fire on Sturges Road after a passerby reported smoke coming from the home.

First-arriving command confirmed a working fire, with crews initiating an aggressive interior attack and coordinated primary search.

Firefighters quickly advanced handlines and contained the fire within a short period, preventing further extension despite significant smoke, heat, and fire damage throughout the residence.

No occupants were inside at the time; however, crews located and safely rescued a cat, which was turned over to animal control. One firefighter sustained a minor injury due to a partial stairwell collapse and was treated on scene.

Mutual aid coverage was provided by Westport Fire Department and Bridgeport Fire Department while crews operated. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
