STATE COLLEGE, PA — March 29th — In order to continue providing service in the Center Region, the Alpha Fire Company secured fire protection coverage through mutual aid partners while members attended their annual banquet.
The borough station was manned by teams from the Columbia Volunteer Fire Company (Truck 22) and the Smithfield Fire Department (Rescue 10) starting shortly before 4:00 p.m. They went to a reported building fire in the 100 block of West College Avenue and dealt with an activated fire alarm at that period.
When units arrived, they discovered a small fire in the building's back. Crews contained the fire to its original location without spreading it by using a water can to put it out. Chief S. Pedersen oversaw operations, which lasted slightly under an hour.
