ASTON TOWNSHIP, PA — March 29th — Just after 1:30 a.m., the Aston Township Fire Department responded to a reported smoke investigation near Concord and Duttons Mill Roads, which was promptly upgraded to a working fire.
When Assistant Chief Harris arrived, the Green Ridge Recreation Club at 2225 Duttons Mill Road was on fire. He took leadership. In approximately an hour, crews from Tac 17 and Truck 17 put four handlines into operation and collaborated with many mutual assistance agencies to contain the fire. Thereafter, extensive overhaul operations took place.
The structure, which formerly housed the Green Ridge Fire Company, is still recognized as a local icon. Local and state fire officials are looking into the event. Just before five in the morning, the units were emptied.
