Police Rescue and Rapid Fire Attack Contain Apartment Blaze

South Hills, PA - Whitehall Fire Department crews responded to a reported building fire at the Olympic Gardens Apartments, where police officers arrived first and confirmed a working fire with entrapment. Officers immediately performed a rescue prior to the arrival of fire crews, removing the trapped occupant to safety.


Firefighters arrived shortly after, deploying handlines and conducting a thorough search of all apartments while simultaneously working to contain the fire. Crews were able to quickly knock down the blaze, preventing further extension within the building.


Units remained on scene for several hours completing overhaul operations and assisting investigators. Mutual aid companies supported operations on scene and provided coverage for the township during the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
