MASTIC, NY - On Tuesday, April 11th at about 5:35 P.M., the Mastic FD was activated along with Mastic Ambulance to respond to a MVA on Mastic Rd. at Moriches Ave. Suffolk County Police were on scene requesting fire and EMS to the scene. Chief of Department Gene Martucci and Assistant Chief Steve Januskiewicz responded to the scene.
On arrival, the chiefs advised Fire-Com that they had a two-vehicle crash and that no one was trapped. Engine crews from 5-12-1 and 5-12-4 responded into the scene and Chief Martucci advised them that he needed brooms, shovels and speedy dry for heavy clean up. While firefighters cleaned up the scene, members of Mastic Ambulance tended to at least one patient who would later be transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Fire Police unit 5-12-80 assisted with traffic control to keep firefighters and EMS personnel safe while operating. The town highway department was requested to be notified for a stop sign that was down at the scene. The scene was turned over to SCPD and all FD units were back in service within about 40 minutes.
