Fast Knockdown Limits Damage in Lewiston House Fire, Five Displaced

LEWISTON, ME — Firefighters responded to a reported structure fire on the 80 block of College Street, where smoke was visible from several blocks away.


Upon arrival, crews encountered a two-story residence with a well-established fire on the first floor. Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines and launched an aggressive interior attack, bringing the bulk of the fire under control in under 10 minutes.


Crews remained on scene for an extended period, conducting overhaul operations and extinguishing hidden pockets of fire within wall voids to prevent rekindle.


One individual was evaluated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and later released. Five residents were displaced as a result of the incident.


The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the fire prevention team.
