Family Loses Home To A Working Fire In Mastic

On Friday April 23rd 2021 at 1:32pm the Mastic Fire Department, Mastic Volunteer Ambulance Company and Suffolk County Police Department 7th Precinct Officers responded to a reported house on fire across from 155 Mayfield Drive between Pineway Avenue and Riverside Avenue. On the arrival of Mastic Fire Department Chief of Department Rudy Sunderman arrived on scene he had transmitted a working fire. Mastic Fire Department Engine 2 (5-12-2) arrived on scene seconds later and started to get a water supply and water on the fire. Mastic Mini Pumper 5 (5-12-5) arrived on scene and the crew quickly got to work assisting the crew of Engine 2. Mutual Aid was provided by the Brookhaven Fire Department, Center Moriches Fire Department, East Moriches Fire Department, Eastport Fire Department, Mastic Beach Fire Department, Manorville Fire Department, Ridge Fire Department, Yaphank Fire Department. EMS Command was set up by Mastic Volunteer Ambulance Company Chief of Department Maria (5-37-30) and Mastic Volunteer Ambulance Company First Assistant Chief Mike M (5-37-31). Shirley Community Ambulance Company was requested to the scene for there rehab unit. Firefighters battled this fire with gusts of winds that added more fuel to the fire. While units where operating the roof had collapsed in on the home and the second story also collapsed in on the home. Unfortunately the house was deemed a total lost and 2 vehicles in the driveway were also lost. The Town of Brookhaven Waste Management Team was requested for a excavator to the scene to start knocking down what was remaining of the home. Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshall’s and SCPD Arson were requested to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire. No one was injured and the Homeowner and Family Dog was able to escape the fire. Cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
