Mutual Aid Crews Support Levittown Incident

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

BETHPAGE, NY — April 2nd — A reported house fire prompted the Bethpage Fire Department to provide mutual help to Levittown. In order to ensure the safety of firefighters, Ladder 3 and Assistant Chief Fitzwilliam were initially designated as the FAST team. Crews were reassigned upon arrival and assigned to support ongoing fireground operations. As is customary for fighting fires throughout Nassau County, units worked under a single command structure to guarantee coordination and sufficient manning.

Firefighters supported suppression efforts and helped with inside operations by checking for fire extension. When circumstances call for more personnel on the fireground, FAST teams are frequently shifted. Bethpage units were taken off the scene and put back into duty after finishing their assignments.
