On April 18, the Yaphank Fire Department received standby coverage from the Center Moriches Fire Department for a community fundraiser.
While Center Moriches personnel manned an engine in their district to guarantee ongoing emergency coverage, Yaphank firefighters organized a Chinese auction and spaghetti supper to benefit their chief's 3-year-old daughter, who is receiving treatment for leukemia.
Firefighters from Center Moriches responded to one car collision in the district while on standby.
