Appleton Firefighters Respond to Chimney Fire

APPLETON, ME - After a chimney fire in town was reported on March 28th, the Appleton Volunteer Fire Department responded. The visible flames had already been put out when crews arrived. After removing the wood stove's smoldering contents, firefighters filled the firebox with a dry chemical extinguisher to guarantee complete extinguishment. Union Fire-Rescue and Liberty Fire & Rescue provided further assistance on scene, including a ladder truck from Liberty. A team checked the chimney using a weighted chain to make sure there was no burning material left. No injuries were reported.
