WESTVILLE, NJ — March 26th — The Westville Fire Department was called to a reported commercial motor vehicle crash with fire near mile marker 20.0 on I-295 heading south. Chief 6, Engines 733 and 19, Rescues 6 and 19, and Tender 21 were among the units sent out. When Chief 6 arrived, he saw that a commercial truck was heavily involved in the fire and asked for more resources to help with water delivery and suppression.

While securing the area and mitigating traffic hazards, crews erected handlines and launched an external attack. Traffic control and scene safety were coordinated with supporting authorities because of the location. There were no reports of responders suffering any immediate injuries. To finish the overhaul and make sure all hot spots were extinguished, crews stayed on the scene. The reason of the fire and collision is still being looked into.
