Jewett City Holds Fire to the Roof

JEWETT CITY, CT - At 5:20 P.M. on Tuesday, April 11th, the Jewett City and Griswold Fire Departments were dispatched to 52 Anthony Street, the old Wyre Wynd, for an unknown type fire. At 5:23, Quinebaug Valley Emergency Communications said they were taking multiple calls and upgraded it to a structure fire which added Lisbon, Voluntown Engine 253, Plainfield Engine 195, Taftville Engine 22, Tower 25 and the Yantic FAST.


Car 56 had a header in the sky and requested the second-alarm at 5:26. Ladder 156 arrived at 5:29 with heavy smoke showing from the rear of a commercial building. After stretching a line, the aerial was flown to the roof. Engine 156 laid a supply line in from the hydrant and established the water supply.


Tower 154 flew their bucket to the roof and used their master streams followed by the standpipe connection. Crews from Jewett City, Lisbon, Plainfield and Taftville opened the roof. Manpower from Norwich, Baltic, Moosup, Central Village and Atwood Hose staged on the second alarm. The Griswold Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
