Morris Firefighters Respond to Route 109 Crash

Morris, Conn. — September 4, 2026 — Firefighters arrived at the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Route 109 near Lakeside Road around 12:40 p.m. On Friday, crews had to disconnect a section of the roadside cable guardrail to safely access the vehicle and finish the recovery operation. 

The Morris Fire Company was the first fire department to arrive. Workers at the scene removed a portion of the cable barrier, made up of wooden posts linked by steel cable. The system needed to be disconnected to enable firefighters to safely reach the vehicle and facilitate its removal. 

Cable guardrail systems are engineered to lessen the impact of certain roadway departures by employing tensioned steel cables held up by posts. They are still in use on certain roads, even though other areas have switched to metal-beam guardrails.
