Fatal Apartment Fire Reported in Wilkinsburg High-Rise

Pittsburgh, PA - On 30th March 2026 at approximately 12:00 p.m., the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire were dispatched to a reported fire in a high-rise residential building along the 2400 block of Laketon Road in Wilkinsburg.

As firefighters arrived, the situation escalated quickly, prompting officials to upgrade the response to a three-alarm incident under the department’s high-rise emergency protocol.

The blaze was confined to a single apartment on the fourth floor, where responders later discovered one individual who had died.

Firefighters managed to bring the situation under control within about an hour. Following containment, crews remained at the site to ventilate smoke and check for any remaining sources of heat that could reignite the fire.

Medical personnel from Eastern Area EMS were also present at the scene. Authorities, including the Allegheny County Fire Marshal, have begun an investigation into the cause of the fire, working alongside Wilkinsburg and Allegheny County police.
