Propane Tank Incident Safely Resolved After Storm Causes Damage in Bondsville

Bondsville, MA - In the early hours of March 17, 2026, at approximately 2:10 AM, the Bondsville Fire Department responded to an emergency on State Street after a large tree, brought down by powerful winds across Western Massachusetts, struck and damaged a 500-gallon propane tank.
Due to the significant safety risk, several nearby homes were promptly evacuated. Fire crews worked diligently under hazardous, rainy, and windy conditions to secure the scene. The situation was successfully mitigated after approximately two and a half hours, with no fire and no injuries reported among residents or emergency personnel.
Authorities confirmed that the propane tank, the fallen tree, and a nearby shed were total losses.
The Bondsville Fire Department expressed its appreciation to the Palmer Police Department and the Hampden County Sheriff’s Deputies for their swift response, effective evacuation efforts, and professionalism throughout the incident.
All fire units cleared the scene and returned to service at approximately 5:20 AM.
