Agawam, MA - On March 31, 2026, at approximately 2:42 PM, firefighters from the Agawam Fire Department were dispatched to Juniper Ridge Drive following reports of a residential structure fire. Initial information indicated heavy fire conditions and the possibility of a trapped occupant, prompting a second alarm to be requested while crews were en route.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a residence heavily engulfed in flames. Neighbors informed crews that an elderly occupant might still be inside. Acting swiftly, firefighters entered the home without hose line protection and successfully rescued the individual.
Crews then initiated extensive fire suppression operations, bringing the blaze under control within approximately 30 minutes. Assistance was provided by the Springfield, Westfield, Southwick, and Longmeadow Fire Departments, along with National Ambulance services.
No civilian injuries were reported. One firefighter was transported to a hospital and is currently listed in stable condition. The home sustained significant damage and has been deemed a total loss.
The Agawam Fire Department expressed gratitude to its mutual aid partners for their support. Thoughts remain with the family affected by the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Agawam Fire Department, Agawam Police Department, and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Department of Fire Services.
