A home in the Feeding Hills section of Agawam was destroyed by a spectacular fire early in the afternoon of Tuesday March 31, 2026 and sent one man to the hospital for treatment of injuries.

Agawam fire crews were alerted by Central Dispatch to the report of a well involved structure fire in the affluent cul-de-sac of Juniper Ridge Drive shortly after 2:30 p.m. While crews were still en route, dispatch advised that callers were stating an elderly occupant may still be inside the dwelling. Upon receipt of this information, the second alarm was ordered to bring additional manpower to the scene. First in Engine 2 confirmed a large two story light weight frame dwelling well off and that they were going in to search for the trapped occupant. Crews located the occupant, an elderly man, and removed him from the home. Rescue 1, an ALS ambulance, then transported the patient to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Companies shortly thereafter switched to a defensive attack on the main body of fire and put hand lines in service on three sides as well as the aerial master stream of the departments' recently delivered Smeal/Sirius one hundred foot rear mount tower. Mutual aid crews from Springfield, Westfield and Southwick arrived to till out the second alarm assignment and all crews spent the next thirty minutes knocking down the main body of fire before spending several hours overhauling the structure to ensure the fire was completely knocked down. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the AFD and the State Fire Marshals Office.
