Mutual Aid Coverage Provided During York Chimney Fire Response

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

York Beach, ME — March 26th — Due to a reported chimney fire, York Beach Fire/Rescue and York Village Fire departments were sent to Abbey Road. When the first personnel came, they verified that the chimney fire was operational and started fighting it. Firefighters gained access to the chimney and looked for potential extensions in the surrounding structure. After roughly an hour of work, the fire was effectively contained to the chimney and did not spread into the house.

There were fourteen firefighters working at the scene. While local crews were committed to the scene, the Ogunquit Fire Department supplied station coverage for the Town of York. In the winter, when heating systems are frequently used, chimney fires continue to be a frequent occurrence.
