Bergenfield - Firefighters from Bergenfield along with an engine from Dumont were dispatched to the 300 block of East Johnson Ave just after 9pm for a reported house fire. Chief Zadrozna arrived first on scene and reported a working fire with heavy smoke and fire showing from the rear of 307 East Johnson Ave. Dumont Engine 5 arrived first on scene and stretched an initial attack line as Bergenfield Engine 3 arrived shortly after and laid a supply line to Dumont's engine. As crews were performing an interior attack, the initial supply hydrant became inoperative. The initial attack line battled the fire using tank water from Dumont engine 5 and Bergenfield engine 3 until a secondary hydrant could secure a supply. Engine 1 arrived and stretched an attack line from the block behind the fire address though rear yards. Firefighters were evacuated briefly from the structure waiting on a positive water supply, but within minutes crews re-entered the structure and knock down the main body of fire. Englewood truck 2 arrived on scene and laddered the roof and performed ventilation. Firefighters remained on scene opening up and checking for any further extension. The fire was placed under control within an hour. New Milford assisted on scene as the RIT team. No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.
