Multi-Company Response Contains Fast-Moving Brush Fire in West Deer Township

March 23, 2026 — A large brush fire on Rittman Road in West Deer Township prompted a significant multi-agency response, bringing together numerous fire companies and specialized units to combat the rapidly spreading blaze. West Deer Township Volunteer Fire Company #3 responded alongside crews from West Deer #1 and #2, Richland Township VFD, Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company, Fawn #1, Frazer #1 and #2, Saxonburg VFC, and Dorseyville VFC.
Firefighters deployed brush trucks, UTVs, and handlines across challenging hillside terrain as the fire spread through dry vegetation. Dozens of personnel worked in coordinated operations to contain the fire, utilizing both mobile and manual suppression techniques. After approximately two hours of intensive firefighting efforts, crews successfully brought the fire under control, preventing further extension and protecting nearby properties.
No injuries were reported, and all assisting agencies returned to service following the incident.
