The fire hazard was estimated to be severe on March 28th, prompting a reminder that open burning is not permitted under these conditions. Earlier in the day, Bantam Fire Company's Engine 34, Engine 35, and Tanker 33 responded alongside the Litchfield Fire Department to an unlawful fire in the vicinity.
Crews responded to the situation and ensured the fire was controlled safely. Incidents like this are more common during times of high fire danger, when dry fuels and wind can cause little outdoor fires to develop quickly.
Fire officials encourage residents to check the daily fire danger rating and follow all of the rules on their burn permit before beginning any outdoor burning.
