Jefferson, NH - Jefferson Fire & EMS experienced a high-demand day on Friday, March 20, as a swift clipper system swept across the region, producing short but intense spells of wet, heavy snowfall.
The day began at 2:50 p.m. with an alarm activation at the Jefferson Community Building. Crews responded promptly, cleared the scene, and reset the system without further incident.
At 3:50 p.m., responders were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident involving a car that had struck a guardrail on Owls Head Highway. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the vehicle was later removed by a towing service.
While clearing that scene around 4:15 p.m., fire personnel encountered another accident nearby—a rollover crash with the driver still inside the vehicle. Crews successfully extricated the sole occupant, who, despite being shaken, reported only a sore elbow. The use of a seatbelt and deployment of airbags were credited with preventing more serious injuries. The vehicle, however, sustained significant damage and was towed from the scene.
Later, at 6:16 p.m., as crews were returning home from the station, they witnessed yet another vehicle veer off the road near Santa’s Village. The car became lodged in slushy conditions and was precariously positioned over a culvert embankment. Two adults and two young children inside the vehicle were unharmed. A family member was able to safely pull the vehicle out with minimal damage.
Jefferson Fire & EMS extended their gratitude to all assisting agencies and individuals, including NH State Police, NH Fish and Game, Lancaster Ambulance, Grafton County Dispatch, and Lufkin Towing, for their support throughout the day.
