March 3, 2026 — Wilton Fire and Rescue, along with multiple mutual aid departments, responded to a reported structure fire around 11:02 a.m. at the intersection of Depot Street and U.S. Route 2, later confirmed to be on Pine Street.

Chief Sonny Dunham arrived on scene and reported a fully involved structure. Incoming crews, including Ladder 7 and Engine One, quickly deployed hose lines and initiated a defensive fire attack due to the intensity of the fire and concerns over structural stability.

With conditions deemed unsafe for interior operations, firefighters made the difficult decision to forgo an initial search and focus efforts on containing the fire and protecting nearby exposures. It was later confirmed that no occupants were inside at the time of the fire.

Despite efforts to rescue animals on the property, crews were unable to locate a dog and cat, though attempts were made to save additional animals in nearby structures.

Firefighters worked diligently to bring the blaze under control, though the structure is considered a total loss. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family, and community support efforts are underway to help meet their needs.

Mutual aid response included departments from Jay, Livermore Falls, East Dixfield, Farmington, Chesterville, Livermore, and MaineHealth EMS, along with Wilton Police.
