Rekindle Brings Firefighters Back to Ovid Scene

On March 18th, firefighters from the Ovid Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 5931 State Route 96A about 6:05 a.m.


Mutual aid departments such as the Varick Fire Department, Romulus Fire Department, Lodi Fire Department, Interlaken Fire Department, Fayette's FAST Team, Seneca County Sheriff's Office, and South Seneca Ambulance responded to help. Lodi Engine 861 arrived first on the scene and reported a working fire.


All occupants and pets escaped safely, but the house was considered a total loss. The Border City Fire Department, Canoga Fire Department, and Trumansburg Fire Department all supplied additional coverage and support. At 1:43 p.m., firefighters were called back to the scene for a rekindle. Units from Ovid and Varick returned to extinguish remaining hot spots before clearing the scene later in the afternoon.
