On March 18th, around 10 a.m., Clifton Park Fire Department crews responded to a reported fire at the Casella Waste recycling site. The facility's Fire Rover system, a remote video-monitored fire detection and suppression system typically used in garbage and recycling operations, notified personnel of a fire within the structure and began suppression efforts before firefighters arrived.
The command confirmed a working fire inside an industrial sorting container. Firefighters advanced lines to put out the fire and performed ventilation operations to remove smoke from the structure. An airboat was also employed to aid with ventilation and air flow around the vast building.
Mutual aid support was provided by the Mechanicville Fire Department, Hillcrest Fire Department, Arvin Hart Fire Company, Jonesville Volunteer Fire Department, and Clifton Park & Halfmoon EMS. Crews operated on scene before returning to service.
