Littleton, NH - On Monday, March 2 at 4:19 p.m., Grafton County Dispatch transmitted a first alarm for a reported building fire on Fox Ridge Road, initially described as a shed fire with exposures. C Shift personnel, led by Lt. Piscitelli and staffing Engine 1 and Tanker 1, responded immediately.
Car 2 arrived on scene and established command, reporting a working fire in a single-story garage measuring approximately 60 by 25 feet. Engine 1 and Tanker 1 arrived shortly thereafter and initiated an offensive fire attack, making entry into the structure. They were soon joined by Engine 2 and Ambulance 1, staffed by off-duty full-time and call members.
Firefighters quickly knocked down the bulk of the fire; however, extensive overhaul operations were required due to void spaces within the structure and a snow-covered metal roof. Mutual aid apparatus were canceled prior to arrival. Bethlehem Ambulance and Lisbon Fire Department provided station coverage during the incident.
While crews were operating on scene, two additional calls for service were received—one handled by Bethlehem Ambulance and the other by Littleton Ambulance 3. The Littleton Police Department also assisted on scene.
According to Chief Miller, the fire was detected early by the resident, who attempted to contain it using a fire extinguisher. He noted that early detection and the department’s rapid response were key factors in saving the structure. Chief Miller also commended off-duty full-time and call members who responded quickly to the station, bolstering staffing and allowing incoming mutual aid units to be canceled, with the exception of coverage. He reminded residents to ensure wood stoves are installed by professionals and inspected annually.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation but is believed to be related to an improperly installed wood stove. No injuries were reported, and all Littleton units returned to service by 6:40 p.m.
