Littleton, NH - On Wednesday, March 11 at 6:55 p.m., D Shift personnel operating Engine 1 and Ambulance 3 were dispatched to a fire alarm activation at 564 Meadow Street. Engine 1 arrived on scene with Lt. Robidoux establishing command and reporting a light smoke condition. He subsequently requested that Grafton County Dispatch transmit a General Alarm.
The upgrade prompted the dispatch of off-duty full-time and call members to staff Engine 2 and Cars 1 and 2. Mutual aid was also requested from the Franconia Fire Department, which responded with Ladder 48.
Firefighters located an electrical issue in the rooftop unit (RTU) heating and cooling system. The unit was shut down, and crews monitored and metered the building to ensure no remaining hazards were present.
The building was reopened at 8:20 p.m., and all apparatus returned to service by 8:33 p.m.
Chief Miller stated that Lt. Robidoux’s quick recognition of the situation and the prompt upgrade of the response, along with the addition of Franconia’s ladder truck, ensured that the appropriate resources were available to manage the incident. He also expressed appreciation for Franconia Fire Department’s assistance while the department’s ladder truck remains out of service for an extended period.
The full extent of the damage to the rooftop unit remains unknown, but firefighters were able to isolate the issue and safely reopen the building.
