Pickup Truck Fire Contained in Morley; No Injuries Reported

Canton, NY - Morley Fire Department and Canton Fire Dept. , along with Canton Rescue, and St. Lawrence County Car 4 from Hammond, were dispatched at 12:17 p.m. to a reported vehicle fire in Morley. Initial reports indicated that the fire was within approximately 20 feet of a nearby structure, raising concerns that the flames could spread to the building.

Engine 7, chauffeured by Assistant Chief Cary with crew members on board, and TA-20, chauffeured by Past Chief Crowe, went en route at 12:21 p.m. Prior to the arrival of Engine 7, Canton Fire Captain Gavin reached the scene and reported that no structures were threatened. However, a Jeep parked nearby was within about 10 feet of the burning vehicle, and the fire had already extended to the roof rack and right rear taillight.

Assistant Chief Johnson arrived moments before the Engine 7 crew at approximately 12:30 p.m. and assumed command of the incident. He directed the Engine 7 crew to deploy two lengths of hose from the bumper line and connect to the side discharge.

The Engine 7 crew, led by Assistant Chief Holcomb, began suppression efforts on the pickup truck, which was fully involved in flames upon their arrival. Within minutes, firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze using a 1½-inch hose line and approximately 750 gallons of water.

The vehicle involved was insured, and no injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported. Morley Fire Department also responded to the scene with a tanker to assist operations.

All units cleared the scene and returned to service at 1:07 p.m.
