Vehicle Fire in H-Lot at St. Lawrence University Quickly Contained
Canton, NY - On 6th March 2026, at 19: 10 hours, Canton Fire and Rescue were dispatched to a reported vehicle fire in H-Lot at St. Lawrence University. Canton 4-3, Chief E. Johnson, went en route at the time of the alarm and later arrived on scene, reporting light smoke coming from a vehicle.
Engine 6 responded at 1917 hours. Upon arrival, the crew deployed a water can and a Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC) to investigate the source of the smoke. As a precaution, firefighters stretched 50 feet of 1¾-inch hose and flowed approximately 300 gallons of water into the engine compartment where the smoke was originating to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported. All Canton units returned to service at 2014 hours.
Engine 6, led by D. Johnson, along with Chiefs Johnson (4-3) and Holcomb (4-4), responded to the incident. Assistance was also provided by the Canton Police Department, Canton Rescue, and St. Lawrence University Security.
