Three Families Displaced by Apartment Fire in Barnstead

BARNSTEAD, NH - A multi-family apartment complex was evacuated Thursday night, February 9th, after a fire broke out in one of the first-floor units.
Barnstead Fire Department responded to the five-unit apartment complex on South Barnstead Road at 5:00 P.M. after receiving reports of black smoke coming from the building. The first arriving units found a working fire on the first floor and requested a first-alarm response, bringing in mutual aid companies from Alton, Strafford, Pittsfield, Farmington and Gilford.
Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and had the fire contained by 6:00 P.M. No injuries were reported, and the red cross was brought in to assist the families. The fire is under investigation.
