The Lisbon Fire Department was summoned around 6:15 a.m. on March 3 to a suspected chimney fire on State Highway 68. Within minutes, the event had escalated to a working structure fire.
Firefighters faced difficult conditions, as subzero temperatures and limited daytime manpower impeded suppression and water delivery attempts. Heuvelton, Ogdensburg, Rensselaer Falls, Morristown, and Canton Fire Departments all responded as mutual aid. The Waddington and Madrid fire departments provided additional backup coverage.
Support agencies included New York State Police for traffic control and the New York State Department of Transportation, which provided a salt truck to assist with roadway conditions. Officials thanked all assisting agencies for their coordinated response.
