Valley Stream, NY - On 8 March 2026, the Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported carbon monoxide emergency at a residential home in Valley Stream. Upon arrival, responding units quickly determined that the house contained dangerously high levels of carbon monoxide.
Firefighters located two patients unconscious on the first floor of the residence. In total, seven individuals were affected by the incident, with two patients listed in critical condition. All seven patients were transported to Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) by VSFD Ambulance 349 and the Nassau County Police Emergency Ambulance Bureau.
Investigators later determined that the source of the carbon monoxide was a broken vent pipe connected to the home’s hot water heater. Fire department units remained on scene for more than an hour ventilating the residence to remove the hazardous gas.
The operation was conducted under the command of Chief of the Department Anthony Capone, who also acknowledged the swift and coordinated response from the Nassau County Police Department, the Emergency Ambulance Bureau, and the Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department.
