West Hurley, NY — February 25th — A reported structure fire in the Sawkill Fire Department's protection area prompted volunteer firefighters from the West Hurley Fire Department to react on mutual aid. Crews used UTV unit 66-60 to get to the area because of the snow-covered terrain and restricted road access.

Firefighters were able to visit the scene of the incident and support operations because the utility terrain vehicle could maneuver through deep snow and wooded regions. Fire departments in Ulster County's rural areas frequently use UTV units to get to places that are inaccessible to conventional fire equipment. Neighboring departments continue to regularly support one another during fires and other crises as part of fire service operations throughout the region.
